With the holiday season in full swing, it’s time to start thinking about holiday meals and get togethers. While traditional holiday meals are always a hit, why not add a fresh and flavorful twist by incorporating herbs from your own garden?
Imagine the smell of freshly picked herbs drifting through your kitchen as you prepare a creamy herb garden dip, the perfect appetizer to kick off your holiday gathering.
Here’s a recipe for a creamy herb garden dip, perfect for using up those fresh herbs from your garden:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh herbs (choose a combination of dill, chives, parsley, basil, oregano, etc.)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lemon, juiced
- Salt and pepper to taste
*While you can use dried herbs the flavor will not be the same. It’s important to note that dried herbs are more concentrated in flavor than fresh herbs and you will need to use less. Instead of 1/2 cup fresh herbs you will need about 2 teaspoons of a mixture of dried herbs. Use more or less depending on taste.
Instructions:
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, and Greek yogurt until smooth.
- Add Herbs and Flavorings: Stir in the chopped fresh herbs, minced garlic, and lemon juice.
- Season: Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Chill and Serve: Chill the dip in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Serve with your favorite vegetables, crackers, or pita chips.
- Storage: Store in the refrigerator up to 5 days. Do not freeze.
Tips:
- Experiment with Herbs: Feel free to experiment with different combinations of herbs to suit your taste.
- Adjust Thickness: If the dip is too thick, add a little more sour cream or yogurt. If it’s too thin, add a bit more mayonnaise.
- Make Ahead: This dip can be made a day or two in advance.
- Salad Dressing: This creamy herb garden dip can be a fantastic salad dressing. To thin it out, you can gradually add milk or buttermilk by whisking in the liquid ingredients gradually, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
