Winter Garden Decor

I always love the way my house looks at Christmas, the sparkling Christmas tree, red and green spread throughout the house, and new Christmas projects completed outdoors But after the Christmas decorations come down, I’m left with a yard without color, and ready to keep my gardening theme going.

Pinecones, berries and birds can be used throughout the winter months to add winter decorations to your outside garden.  Snowmen, birdhouses, birdfeeders and birdbaths are also good choices to use at Christmas and leave up for a few more months.  Just remove any Christmas decorations.

This year my decorations outdoors can continue into February and I can enjoy a little color until the azaleas start blooming, and spring bulbs pop up.

So, I moved my red planter that held last summer’s fern, onto the front porch, and grabbed a pair of old garden boots stored away in the closet to add to the scene.watering can in red holderA watering can that was on the back deck steps was added to the planter, and I put my granddaughters to work picking up pinecones from the yard.  I finished filling up the planter with cones, anchoring the can which was placed on a couple of bricks to give it height.  I added a little bird pick to the can finishing off the scene.

A couple of large evergreen  stems with red berries from Michael’s was any easy fix for these garden boots.

This year when you are considering outdoor Christmas décor, think about how you might extend it a few more months.

Happy Decorating!
