Tool Box Caddy

When it’s too hot to garden (95 sweltering degrees) what do you go? Go shopping! After a trip to Lowes to look for flooring and deck stain, my husband and I decided to stop in at a local antique mall.

Aisle after aisle of overpriced stuff, I was ready to leave when my eye spotted this little toolbox. It was priced right and I had an idea what I wanted to do with it.

I cleaned it up so that I could get it ready to paint.

I painted the box white and distressed it with the palm sander to make it look a little more “worn”.

I sanded the edges and corners,  as well as the box itself to dull the finish.

I usually stencil the lettering on, but I wanted to finish, and was thinking about a black and white theme. I spotted some stick on letters in my craft supplies, and placed them in a whimsical pattern on the box.

Afterward, I lightly hand sanded over the letters to dull the glossy finish.  I decoupaged over with Modge Podge to seal.

I sat it on the little blue table on the deck and added some plastic watermelon dishes and ice cream glasses.

This welcome caddy would also lppkgreat with mason jars to hold straws, silverware, napkin and flowers.
