Did you know that flowers have a secret language? Back in the Victorian era, flowers weren’t just pretty—they were a secret way to send messages when words couldn’t quite say it all. Or maybe, couldn’t be said out loud! A bouquet wasn’t just a bouquet—it was a carefully arranged message, full of meaning and hidden emotions.
Even today, we’re drawn to certain flowers, whether in our gardens or as gifts. But have you ever wondered what your favorite bloom might say about you? Let’s dig into the language of flowers and what they reveal about the gardeners (and flower lovers) who adore them! My favorites? Peonies and zinnias. I certainly am a dreamer and I hope my friends see me as loyal.
Roses – The Romantic at Heart
If you gravitate toward roses, you likely have a classic, timeless approach to life. You appreciate tradition, beauty, and deep connections. Red roses symbolize love and passion, while pink represents admiration, and yellow stands for friendship. If you love growing roses, you probably enjoy nurturing relationships just as much as your garden.
🌹 What it says about you: You’re sentimental, romantic, and appreciate the finer things in life.
I have a confession. Roses have never been my favorite. Maybe because I always found them so “high maintenance” to grow. But that doesn’t mean I would turn down a dozen of red roses!
Sunflowers – The Optimist
Do you love the bold, cheerful look of sunflowers? You’re likely a bright, positive person who brings warmth wherever you go. Sunflowers symbolize adoration, loyalty, and longevity. Their tendency to turn toward the sun mirrors your natural ability to find the silver lining in any situation.
🌻 What it says about you: You’re a natural encourager, full of energy and enthusiasm for life.
Lavender – The Calming Presence
If lavender is your go-to garden plant, you value peace, relaxation, and a little bit of rustic charm. Lavender symbolizes devotion and serenity, making it a favorite of those who love a slow, intentional lifestyle. You might be someone who enjoys herbal remedies, cozy spaces, and quiet moments in the garden.
💜 What it says about you: You’re nurturing, grounded, and a source of calm for those around you.
Daisies – The Free Spirit
A lover of daisies is youthful at heart, with a fun and carefree nature. Daisies symbolize innocence, purity, and new beginnings. If you’re drawn to these cheerful blooms, you likely see the world with a sense of wonder and enjoy spreading joy to others.
🌼 What it says about you: You’re spontaneous, lighthearted, and always ready for an adventure.
Peonies – The Dreamer
If peonies are your favorite, you have an eye for elegance and a heart full of hope. Peonies symbolize prosperity, romance, and good fortune. You might be someone who loves a bit of old-world charm, enjoys celebrations, and believes in the beauty of love stories.
🌸 What it says about you: You’re sentimental, creative, and drawn to beauty in all forms.
One of my favorites. Every Mother’s Day mine (I have 5) are either budded out or in full bloom. They smell wonderful in a bouquet on the dining room table. I have a blue pitcher that they look so pretty in.
Zinnias – The Loyal Friend
Zinnias symbolize endurance, lasting friendship, and strong bonds. If you love these vibrant, resilient flowers, you’re probably the type of person who sticks by your friends through thick and thin. Zinnias bloom long into the season, just like your unwavering loyalty.
🌺 What it says about you: You’re dependable, warm-hearted, and a wonderful friend.
Tulips – The Graceful Giver
If tulips are your favorite, you’re elegant, kind, and have a natural ability to brighten someone’s day. Tulips symbolize love, cheerfulness, and grace. They come in so many colors, just like your ability to adapt and bring joy to different situations.
🌷 What it says about you: You’re thoughtful, charming, and always make people feel special.
What Does Your Favorite Flower Say About You?
No matter which blooms you love most, there’s a story behind them—just like there’s a story behind every gardener. Whether you’re drawn to the elegance of roses, the cheerfulness of sunflowers, or the calm of lavender, your favorite flowers reflect your personality in more ways than you think!
And the best part? You don’t have to just admire these flowers—you can grow them! Adding flowers to your vegetable garden isn’t just about beauty.
