Pinecone and Herbs Firestarters

We have LOTS of pine trees in our yard and even more pinecones. I have used a lot of those pinecones in my Christmas decorations but as I pulled into my driveway and saw it covered once again, I tried to think of another use for them. We have a fireplace and keep paper, and fire starters in a basket for those cold winter nights when we want to have a fire.

I gathered a few up, and headed to my back yard to see if I had any herbs that were still fresh. The sage was gone, but my rosemary and lavender were still green. I didn’t have any newspaper in the house, but remembered an old sheet music magazine I had bought and had used for a couple of projects.  Scissors and twine was all that I needed now.

I snipped the herbs, added a pinecone, and placed them in the middle of the sheet music.

Wrap, twist the ends, and tie with twine.

Making pinecone and herbs firestarters

I placed mine in my vintage Campfire Marshmallow tin, tucked in the rest of the fresh herbs, and put it beside the fireplace. Just throw one in the fireplace to help start your fire and add a nice fragrance to your home.  These would make great hostess gifts too.
