Those pretty Easter lilies (Lilium longiflorum) often come home from church services or grocery store displays. Most people enjoy them for a week or two and then toss them—but you don’t have to!

Caring for Your Lily Indoors:
-
Keep it in bright, indirect sunlight.
-
Water when the top inch of soil feels dry—don’t let it sit in water.
-
Remove the yellow pollen-filled stamens to extend bloom life and prevent staining.
-
After the blooms fade, cut back the flower stalk but leave the leaves.
Replanting Outdoors:
-
Wait until all danger of frost has passed (usually late spring).
-
Choose a sunny, well-drained location.
-
Plant the bulb about 6 inches deep.
-
Water well and mulch lightly.
-
The original bulb may go dormant after blooming, but it often comes back the following year, sometimes with even more stalks and blooms.
